#BirchallsBritain – Birchall Tea Blogger’s Event

Last month I was lucky enough to be invited by Birchall Tea, to come and taste some of their teas at Trevose Golf Club near Padstow down here in Cornwall.

It’s a shame it was quite a misty grey day, as I can imagine normally the views from Trevose Golf Club are stunning. As it was, they were still beautiful, and so was the actual place.

Trevose Golf Club

I wasn’t the only person invited to enjoy afternoon tea with Birchall, there was also Fiona from Coombe Mill, Hayley from Downs Side Up, Beth from Jam and Clotted Cream with her gorgeous baby Heidi, and a fabulous artist named Alice Hole with her husband. Most definitely good company to be in, and it was lovely to spend some time with such lovely people.

Speaking of lovely people, the guys from Birchall could not have been nicer, it was really fun to meet them all and they were really interesting to listen to. They really did do Birchall proud, especially Will who was doing most of the talking. Birchall Tea are doing a bit of a tour of Britain at the moment, which they started off in Cornwall as part of #BirchallsBritain.

Usually I’m someone whose taste in tea isn’t that adventurous, and I drink whatever brand we have in the house at the time. I do really enjoy a cup of tea, I’ve just never really tasted many different types, as I hate the thought of wasting money by buying a big box of tea that never gets used, as I end up not liking it.

Taste testing with Birchall Tea was perfect for me, as I got to try a lot of teas and work out which I loved and which I personally wasn’t so keen on. It was funny also seeing how different everyone’s favourites were, it just goes to show just how different people’s personal tastes can be. It really was a lot of teas that we all tried.

Several of the others loved the Green Tea and peach tea, but it really didn’t appeal to me. My favourites were the Birchall Great Drift tea, which is a breakfast tea, and the Peppermint tea. I didn’t think I would like the Peppermint, but it smelled amazing, tasted great and confused me with how it cold be hot but make my mouth feel cooled and fresh.

I was lucky enough to be given a lovely goody bag from Birchall Tea, which included enough boxes of tea to keep me going for a long time, so we’re all enjoying their teas at home at the moment.

Birchall Tea

You may be wondering what is so special about Birchall Tea compared to other tea companies, and there are several things that do make them stand out such as;

  • The Birchall family have been involved with tea trading since 1872, that’s five generations of their family so far. Now that’s dedication!
  • They don’t compromise on quality at all, which means that unlike many tea producers, they don’t add stalk, powder or dust to their tea bags to plump them and make them look more full. This means you get the full flavour from each tea bag.
  • Since 2011 their teas have won 25 accolades at The Guild of Fine Food’s prestigious Great Taste Awards.
  • Their teas are sustainably sourced from East Africa and they really look after those who work for them out there.

You can’t currently buy Birchall Tea in the supermarkets, but they are in many independent shops and you can buy it online at the Birchall Tea Shop.

Thank you Birchall Tea for a brilliant afternoon, with excellent company and delicious tea!

    Thanks Beth, and most definitely! There is a restaurant/cafe in Saltash who mentioned they may do a blogger’s meet up in Feb or March to me, so if they don’t contact you I’ll give them your details :)

    Ha I have definitely become a tea snob as well now! I can’t actually believe how many tea bags we’ve used up already. Hopefully there will be another event locally soon
