Christmas Events in Cornwall 2017


I love Christmas and so this list of Christmas events in Cornwall for 2017 is partly for me! This is a random list of different festive events and activities all over Cornwall organised in date order, with the location in bold.

Saturday 18th November


Camborne lights switch on at 4.30pm. In the lead up to the switch-on there will be entertainment & activities in town from 11am onwards.

Commercial Square 11am – 4pm Come and Play / 11am – 4pm Face Painting / Noon -3pm Reindeer in the Square. On Stage 1pm VOX Dance / 1.30pm Jumping Out / 3.30pm Cantabile Choir / 4pm Holman Climax Choir/ 4.30pm Switch on by Mayor of Camborne. FREE parking at Rosewarne Car Parks (only) all weekend from 18th-19th November.

St Austell Torchlight Carnival. Procession leaves John Keay House/St. Austell College 6pm visit the Carnival website for details of the route.


Saturday 18th November and Sunday 19th November


Annual Christmas Craft Fair at Pencarrow House between Wadebridge and Bodmin. Food marquee and gifts to buy. The Peacock Cafe will be open all day for light lunches and cakes. £2.50 per person 10.00am – 4.00pm. Cash only payments on the stalls.


From Saturday 18th November until 23rd December


Father Christmas’ Winter Wonderland at Tamar View Nurseries Garden Centre in Saltash. Visit the Facebook Events page for information on how to book etc.


Sunday 19th November


Christmas Fair at The Cornish Birds of Prey Centre at Winnards Perch near St Columb Major. Free entry and free parking. Father Christmas will be arriving on a Steam Engine. Dancer and Cupid his Reindeer will be in attendance in a Winter Wonderland Scene. Over 80 Craft Stalls, Winter Wonderland, Bouncy Castle and Free Mince Pies & Mulled Wine. 10am until 4pm.

Cornwall’s Mother, Baby and Child Fair is at Heartlands from 10-3pm. Meet real reindeer from 10-1pm, also appearances throughout the day from Elsa and Olaf from Frozen. Face Painting, Arts and Crafts, Indoor Soft Play and more. Over 30 stalls to browse plus a huge charity raffle, free first aid demo’s and a cash prize of £50 to win. Adults £1 , children free. Wednesday 22nd November


Truro City of Lights 7pm until 9pm. If you haven’t been before, it does get very busy so arrive early if you can. A parade of lanterns through the streets of Truro with music and more.


Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th November


Fowey Christmas market all weekend. In the main marquee on the Town Quay check out the locally made food, drink and crafts while in the Town Hall you’ll find handmade cushions, slate clocks, driftwood Christmas trees and local watercolour. Fowey Christmas market starts at 5.30pm on the Friday. 6.45pm – Father Christmas arrives at Berrils Yard and proceeds towards church then 7pm – Santa arrives outside church, Christmas lights switch on.


Saturday 25th November


Camelford Christmas lights switch on and fireworks.

Christmas Fair plus meet Santa and his real reindeer at Gwel an Mor Portreath. The Fair is free to attend and has food, gifts to buy and entertainment. Click here to book tickets to meet Santa: If you can’t make it to meet Santa during the Christmas Fair then he is also there on Wednesday’s & Sunday’s in December plus 22nd & 23rd December.


Saturday 25th November until Saturday 23rd December


Camel Creek near to Wadebridge – Santa will arrive on the Elf Express at Camel Creek on the 25th November at 11am and from then on will be at Camel Creek until 23rd December for children to see during normal opening hours, for £3 per child in addition to the usual entrance fees. Visit will include : A ride on the Elf Express, a gift from Santa, Santa’s Storytime and a Sing-along with his elves. To book call 01841 540276. Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th November


Christmas Craft Fair at the Bedruthan Hotel and Spa at Mawgan Porth. With over 50 stalls of contemporary craft, art, ceramics, illustration, homewares, textiles, decor, gifts, fashion, jewellery, accessories and food and drink. Tickets for the Christmas Craft Fair are £1.50 and can be bought online on the Bedruthan Hotel site. Please note that tickets are non-refundable and cannot be transferred from one day to the other. Their car park can get very busy during the fairs, so the Newquay Lions Club are providing the free shuttle service from Mawgan Porth beach car park up to the hotel.

Fowey Christmas Market at Fowey Leisure Centre. Live entertainment all weekend from musicians, choirs and other performers. Around 60 traders/stalls with gifts and more.

Meet Father Christmas at The Eden Project at Bodelva near to St Austell. Visit the Eden Project website for timings and to pre-book tickets.


Select Dates Between 25th November and 30th December


The Eden Project’s Festival of Light and Sound is on with light shows and music. 5pm til 8pm with no additional fee once you’ve paid to enter the site. Near to St Austell. Pop to the Eden Project site for more info.


Sunday 26th November


The Merlin MS Centre’s Christmas Fair is on at The Alverton Hotel in Truro.  9am – 4pm, £5 per person (under 14 free) includes tea/coffee and a mince pie. Food & Drink, unique Gifts, handmade crafts. Tresillian Ladies Choir & Four Lanes Male Choir, plus a FREE visit to Father Christmas . Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Merlin centre.

Retallack Resort and Spa at Winnards Perch near to St Columb Major have a Christmas Market in their Tipis. With a selection of local craft stalls and raffles. Crafts for children and unique and personal gifts to buy from local Cornish sellers. Family ticket (2 x adults & 2 x children) £5 / Extra adult £2 / Extra child (U16) £1 .Adult ticket £2. Trelissick Christmas Craft Fair 10.30am – 4.30pm. £4 to park, free to National Trust members. Lots of craft/gift stalls.


Tuesday 28th November


St Austell Christmas lights switch on at 6pm in Aylmer Square. Also the first late night shopping night in the town with free parking from 4pm at Priory and White River car parks. Singing from local schools and choirs, plus live bands and artists throughout the evening. Stalls selling gifts, Wipeout Inflatable, hot food and drinks, circus acts, Jazz musicians plus more.


Wednesday 29th November until 3rd December


The Made in Cornwall Christmas Market will be on Lemon Quay in Truro with lots of gifts to buy and more.


Thursday 30th November


Falmouth Christmas lights switch on at 7pm. Local school children parade through the town to The Moor for the switch on, this starts around 5.30pm and ends in songs and carols at The Moor. Food, drink and other festive fun. Late night Christmas shopping night.


Friday 1st December


Christmas lights turn on in Bodmin.

Helston Christmas lights switch on with a fireworks display and Santa’s grotto.


Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd December


Lantern Walk at the National Trust’s Trengwainton Garden at Madron near Penzance. Beautifully lit gardens, hot food, mulled wine, Father Christmas in his grotto, face painting, and a wonderful festive atmosphere provided by local choirs and bands. Half price entry – Free for National Trust members. **free shuttle bus going from Penzance bus station on both evenings, courtesy of  First Kernow. The first bus will leave Penzance at 5.15pm and will then run up and down until the last bus from Trengwainton at 8pm**


Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd December


Etsy Made local contemporary Christmas fair at The Guildhall St Ives. Stalls, crafts and gifts, cocktails and more. Opening Times: Friday 1st December 6pm to 9pm/Saturday 2nd December 10am to 5pm/Sunday 3rd December 10am to 4pm. Free admission and dog friendly.


Saturday 2nd December


Pinetum Gardens Christmas Fayre in St Austell (Pinetum Gardens/Pine Lodge). Bouncy castle, crafts, tombola and lucky dip. Mulled wine with festive treats, music and more. Visit Santa in his sleigh as he stops off at the gardens for the day. Only £1 to enter the beautiful gardens.

Callington lights switch on and Victorian village.


From Saturday 2nd December until 24th December


Santa’s Grotto at Paradise Park Hayle. Check their Facebook events page for information on timings, how to book and what’s included.


Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd December


Christmas Craft Fayre at Flambards in Helston. Local gifts and goodies plus food and drink and live music from Helston Town Band. Stalls are situated throughout the park, including the Entertainment Venue, the Cafe area, the Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz where you can wander around the exhibitions. Entrance is just £1 per person including entrance to the Fayre, the Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz. Open Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm

The undercover cafe and various food outlets will also be open throughout the weekend. Santa Claus himself will also be dropping in for the weekend – catch him as he wanders around the park with his elves or join him for meet and greets at specific times during each day – wherever you see him, he’ll be happy to stop for a chat or a photo opportunity – don’t forget your camera!

Christmas Craft Fayre at Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm – Penhallow near Truro. Free entry to the craft fair for Christmas gifts, festive food & drink, carol singing & fresh Christmas trees for sale. Enjoy the farm’s tractor rides, tours & friendly farm animals for a family day out.



Saturday 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th December


Bodmin and Wenford Railway Bodmin – A journey with the elves aboard a steam train to visit Santa’s grotto. one hour return journey on a steam hauled train. Includes, a mince pie and seasonal drink for adults, a visit to see Santa on board (with plenty of time for a photo), a present for each child and carols on the platform with Liskeard Band. Book your tickets and check prices and more info online or on 01208 73555. Some trains will have wheelchair access, ring them for more details.


2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th December


Christmas Charity Grotto, Festival & Market – Trevena Cross Garden Centre, Breage, Helston. Huge Santa’s Grotto: possibly the LARGEST grotto in Cornwall raising thousands of pounds for charity. The festival and market are open to the public with free entry on the first three weekends of December: 2-3 December, 9-10 December and 16-17 December 2017 from 10am to 4pm, PLUS this year the grotto will also open the first three Thursday evenings until 8pm! 100% of money raised by the grotto over ALL three weekends and Thursday evenings goes to charity! Grotto entry just £5 per child. Festival entry is free.

NEW giant snow globe to enter (complete with snow machine) offering a fun, strike-your-pose, photo opportunity. Oggy the talking owl has festive stories under his wing and a gigantic polar bear is returning from the arctic to star in your photos. More trees in the Christmas Tree Forest, more live music to enjoy, a gigantic ‘festive frenzy’ in the shop and possibly the best home-cooked food in the Garden Kitchen Café.


Thursday 7th, Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December


The Padstow Christmas Festival is on in Padstow, with too many events for me to list, check out the Festival Timetable for more information. Includes cooking demonstrations, a Santa Fun Run, live music, Santa’s Grotto a Christmas Market and lots more.


Friday 8th December


Late night Christmas shopping in St Agnes with reindeer and more.


Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December


Trereife House Penzance have seasonal shopping inside the house and festive food and drinks served in the cafe and courtyard. Adult entry is £2 at the weekend including a mince pie and £5 for the Friday night preview including a glass of mulled wine also. Children are welcome and entry for them is free. Friday 5pm til 9pm and Saturday/Sunday 10am til 5pm.


Saturday 9th December


Coverack Christmas lights switch on from 6.30 pm including a lantern procession, Father Christmas in a pony drawn sleigh with gifts for all children, carols and hot refreshments.

Newquay Community Christmas Market on the Killacourt and Bandstand Newquay – 10am – 6pm in a marquee with lots of stalls selling a selection of items, many festive. Santa’s Grotto 10am – 4pm. Music throughout the day, ‘LIVE’ performances from choirs. 7pm the marquee reopens for a night of music, much of it in the spirit of the festive season. Bar will be open serving drinks all night, closes at 11pm. Free event, pop to the Newquay Community Christmas Market Facebook page for information on how to book for Santa.

Lighthouse Cinema Christmas Craft Fair in Newquay. Lots of locally crafted gifts, tasty treats and more. Tretherras School Vocal 7 choir  will be singing in the foyer. Plus their annual discounted Christmas film for just £2.50 per seat. This year Home Alone.

Praa Sands Christmas Fair at the Praa Sands Community Centre 11.30am until 4.30pm.


From Saturday 9th December until 24th December


Santa Trains at Lappa Valley Steam Railway – St Newlyn East near Newquay. Check their Facebook Events Page for more information and how to book etc. Includes a return steam train journey, a specially selected present included with each child ticket, an individual visit to Santa in his grotto, warmed mince pie and mulled wine (or hot drink alternative) for adults, children’s entertainment including balloon making from the magical Harry Kazzam, Christmas card colouring, Christmas letter writing whilst you wait to visit Santa, indoor play carriages, outdoor play and rides on 125 Woodland Railway. £12.50 per person, free for under ones without a gift.


Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December


The Lost Gardens of Heligan near to St Austell will be holding the Heligan Christmas Fair from 10am to 4pm. Well over 80 stalls, with marquees in the coach park, picnic and ticketing areas. Food and drink produce, crafts, jewellery, art and more. You can also order or buy your Christmas tree. Free to Heligan Annual Members, £1 Local Pass holders and £2 for everyone else – including garden entry.

The Mount Edgcumbe Christmas Fayre, Torpoint – Saturday 9th December – 10.00am-5.00pm/Sunday 10th December – 10.00am-4.00pm. Cookery demonstrations from leading west country chefs, local produce, entertainment and Christmas carolling, lots of gifts and crafts to buy. A visit from Santa on Saturday & Sunday between 11am-3pm. Admission: Adults £3 each, Children £1 each. No dogs, except guide dogs, are allowed in the fayre


Sunday 10th December


The Seahorse Christmas Party at The Seahorse Club Pentewan – a fun, family Christmas cabaret show, Christmas party disco with festive games and activities, plus a visit to see Santa and his elves in their grotto (includes small gift). Tickets cost just £5.00 per child and are available to buy online at > Plus, food and drink available. If you fancy making a whole day of it, lunch-time table bookings are available by calling 01726 845 208.

At The Portreath Arms Portreath – from 2pm Santa and the donkeys from The Flika Foundation. Plus a Christmas market loads of lovely crafts and Christmas goodies, mulled cider and hot food. Also village lantern parade at 6pm.

The Castle Bude Christmas Fair. Lots of stalls in a large marquee on the lawn as well as the Blanchminster Room and Willoughby Gallery. Café Limelight in the Castle will be open throughout the day and with a ‘pop-up’ selling mulled wine, hot chocolate and minced pies in the marquee. There will also be live choral and music performances throughout the day. The Castle Bude Christmas Fair will be open to the public from 11 am to 4 pm and entrance is free.


Thursday 14th December


The annual Lostwithiel Dickensian Evening in Lostwithiel. From 6pm. A lantern parade through the streets launches the event, led by Alpaca Reindeer. Join Lost in Song for traditional carol singing – part of an evening of music, performance and storytelling throughout the town. Christmas shopping becomes a joy with arts, crafts and vintage. There are late night openings all over town where traders dressed in traditional Dickensian costumes will welcome you in for a warming cup of cheer. Christmas food and drink. Colourful advent windows and Christmas trees all add to the atmosphere and Santa himself. Arrive early and park on the edge of town – or better still come by train and avoid the traffic.


Friday 15th December


Bude Christmas lights switch on.

Wadebridge – Craft Market from 4pm – food and crafts market in Wadebridge Town Hall (and throughout Saturday), gifts and produce. At 6pm Santa arrives on a steam engine on the piazza, Eddystone Road, where there are also rides and candy floss.At about 8.15pm there are also Fireworks – best view from the bridge.

The Britannia Inn & Enhancing Entertainment are hosting a Santa’s Kingdom at The Britannia in St Austell. It’s a 30 minute family Christmas experience where you’ll meet all of Santa’s friends including Peter Pan, Cinderella and more. On arrival, you will be greeted by Santa’s helpers who will guide you through the experience with festive treats & surprises for all the family before meeting Santa himself where all children will receive a special gift.

Complimentary mince pies & mulled wine on arrival, Hot & cold refreshments available, Christmas merchandise stall, Photos with all the Christmas characters, FREE prize draw to win a family holiday plus other prizes.

Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December


Newquay Zoo has ‘Jungle all the way’ on this December- a weekend of Festive fun for families. Candy cane trail with a special prize. Meet your favourite characters such as Belle and Rapunzel. Listen to Santa read some Christmas Classics and give him your Christmas wishlist. Music from local musicians such as Newquay Band, festive food in the Lemur Cafe and more.


Sunday 17th December


Santa Fun Run in Wadebridge, one shorter and one longer course, starting from the Langueux Circle in Jubilee Park (next to Co-op car park).


Select Dates from Sunday 17th December until 23rd December


Santa returns to Helston Railway on the 9th and 10th of December and then every day from the 17th to the 23rd December. Advance booking to see Santa in his grotto essential £5 per child, for a train ride its £17 for a family. Buffet and gift shop will be open to help you enjoy yourselves even more! A new stock of preloved Thomas Toys will be available. Free parking and access.


Wednesday 20th December


Christmas Dinner, pudding and a disco with Jethro at Penstowe Manor Kilkhampton at 7pm. Tickets £30 per person/Events booking line: Katie 07909770890.


Thursday 21st December


Christmas Carol Concert supporting Cornwall Air Ambulance at Camel Creek Wadebridge. At 5:30pm with a brass band and live choir. Tickets are £5 for Adults and £3 for Children, to book please call 01841 540276. For all details and terms & conditions visit
