Here’s a quick run down of things to do in Cornwall during the February 2018 Half Term break. I am going to be adding to this list as and when I spy new events and things to do, so keep checking back.
Monday 5th until Sunday 18th February
The Eden Project St Austell – Eden’s ice skating will be available for most of the month. Pop to the booking page to check on times and to book your tickets. You will still need to pay for access to The Eden Project or use your annual/local’s pass.
Saturday 10th until Sunday 18th February
Glendurgan Gardens (National Trust) Mawnan Smith Falmouth – There is a fun family trail to do in the gardens all half term which is free. Usual entry fees apply unless you are a member.
The Eden Project St Austell – In association with Early Man, the new film release, The Eden Project have an Early Man themed week for half term. Included with normal Eden admission ticket / free with an Eden Locals’ Pass or Membership. Activities include a special quest, cave art in a special cave, behind the scenes footage of the film, model making, take part in a archaeological dig and learn about bushcraft. The Lost Gardens of Heligan near St Austell – This half term you can meet owls from Screech Owl Sanctuary at Heligan, explore their birdlife and learn more about birds. Take part in a family outdoor bird trail, do some bird watching, take part in bird crafts and enjoy the outdoors at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Wellies and waterproofs are advisable. Land’s End Landmark Land’s End – The ‘Aardman Presents: A Grand Experience’, attraction is opening at Land’s End and replaces the landmark destination’s Shaun the Sheep Experience. Expanding upon the Shaun the Sheep Experience, the new site gives visitors the chance to step into Wallace & Gromit’s living room, explore Wallace’s workshop and help build one of his Cracking Contraptions, before climbing on board a rocket to the moon. Saturday 10th until Sunday 25th February
Paradise Park Hayle – Little Pirates and Fairies February Half Term Quiz. When you have completed the quiz you can claim your sweet treat either golden chocolate coins, the pink fairy sweets or little lollipops to reward pirates and fairies. You can meet Long John Tredinnick and his loyal band of parrots while you chart your course on your quest to find where the treasure is hidden. Paradise Park is open every day all year other than Christmas Day and there’s a fun indoor soft play area for children if the weather isn’t behaving.
Sunday 11th until Friday 16th February
Cornwall’s Regimental Museum Bodmin – At Bodmin Keep there are various Half Term activities including Arts and crafts fun make & take sessions, Military dressing up, a fun trail and quiz and lots more. Different events on different days, check the Cornwall Regimental Museum website for more information and what’s on when.
Sunday 11th, Tuesday 13th, Thursday 15th and Saturday 17th February
Godolphin (National Trust) Helston – Family Storytelling Walks, check the Godolphin part of the National Trust site for more information.
Sunday 11th, Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14th, Thursday 15th, Sunday 18th February
Bodmin and Wenford Railway Bodmin – The railway reopens after a short winter break with steam trains running over half term. Activity and colouring sheets, along with the chance to learn more about the railway’s history and operations with the new dressing up box. Kids travel for just £1 over half term. You could also book a Cornish Cream tea in First Class on a Steam & Cream train, 11th or 18th February (tickets for Steam & Cream trips should be booked in advance, £19.50). Monday 12th until Friday 16th February
Pendennis Castle Falmouth – Enjoy an action packed day of soldier training. Be put through your paces in commando training. Step back to the time of the Second World War and face the Drill Sergeant. Sign up to the training camp and see if you have what it takes to conquer the obstacle course. Check the Pendennis Castle site for more information and timings.
Telegraph Museum Porthcurno – Half term activities at the Telegraph Museum are based on Spring, Chinese New Year and a whole new twist on codes and cryptography. The activity workshop is learning to make a bracelet which has your name in Morse code. On Tuesday and Thursday, there will be some origami crafts. There are a number of self-led activities around the Museum, where you can do Chinese calligraphy and use ideograms. Activity times will be: 11:30-12:30 and 1:30-3:00. All activities are included in the cost of your admission ticket to the Museum. Check the Telegraph Museum website for more information.

Cotehele St Dominick Nr Saltash – Children’s Bushcraft sessions, check the Cotehele section of the National Trust website for more details.
Tuesday 13th February Events in Cornwall
Trebah Gardens Mawnan Smith Falmouth – Half Term Drop in Workshop. Tales of Cornish giants through their “Wow! What a Whopper” Trail and a Drop-In creative workshop to make your very own Cornish mythical creature. Workshops £3 per child. “Wow What a Whopper” trail £2 including a prize. Normal garden entry rates apply and tickets are valid for 7 days. Check the Trebah Gardens website for opening times and how to find it.
Thursday 15th February Events in Cornwall
Pinetum Gardens St Austell – Day full of fun and activities to help celebrate the Chinese New Year. Plymouth Chinese School will be delivering family workshops throughout the day to celebrate Chinese culture through four exciting activities. Wrap up warm as the activities are held in an unenclosed barn. Events from 10.30am which include Chinese Painting, Chinese Characters and Numbers, Chinese Tea Ceremony and Wellbeing and Chinese Paper Cutting. Friday 16th February Events in Cornwall
Wheal Martyn St Austell – Forest School Family Fun Day at Wheal Martyn from 1pm until 3pm. Fun in the woods for all the family, with Forest School activities, like nature crafts, scavenger hunts, den building and a campfire. Pop to the Wheal Martyn website for more information on timings and how to buy tickets.
Sunday 18th February Events in Cornwall
Cornwall Air Ambulance Trevithick Downs – It’s the Cornwall Air Ambulance open day and you can get a behind-the-scenes view of the helicopter and specialist equipment used by the crew every day. Ask the crew questions, see the helicopter up close and watch demonstrations of the equipment used to save lives. There will also be fun and games, delicious treats and a pop-up charity shop. Have any unwanted gifts? Bring them along as a donation and help save a life. For more information pop to the Cornwall Air Ambulance website. Free event, but donations are welcomed.
