Finley’s Fundraising – Bean Boozled Challenge

Fin was struggling a little bit recently, due to understandably being very fed up being a Type 1 Diabetic. After 6 years and over 9000 injections, I don’t think any one can blame him for that! Anyway Si suggested that he did something positive to take his mind off the bad side and to help in a small way towards Diabetes research, and so Finley’s fundraising has begun! First is the Bean Boozled challenge.

Most people with YouTube addicted children will know what this is, but for those of you lucky enough to be spared having to watch such things, I’ll explain one of the many weird things that people get up to on YouTube.

Bean Boozled is a game, which comes in a special little box full of jelly beans and a spinner.

Bean Boozled challenge

Now at this point you may be thinking, that this sounds like a very tasty game, but there is a challenge to the Bean Boozled game. You never know what you are actually going to be eating.

To play, you take it in turns to spin the spinner and then you need to eat the coloured jelly bean that it lands on. This gives you a 50% chance of getting a nice jelly bean and a 50% chance of really not. For example with a brown bean, you may get a yummy chocolate pudding one, but then it may be actually be a canned dog food one.

Most people who play the game, play it with a ‘spitting’ bowl close by out of necessity. There are also rotten egg, moldy cheese, baby wipes and all sorts of other ‘delicious’ treats that you may be ‘lucky’ enough to select.

Fin and Harley did the Bean Boozled challenge today, and as you can see from the video below it was definitely a challenge! If you have a weak stomach I would advice not watching.

Poor Fin nagged us for weeks to let him buy Bean Boozled, but I suspect he wont be so keen on it in future. He was a real trooper though carrying on after getting moldy cheese right at the beginning, as was Harley! Harley will be joining in and helping out with a lot of the challenges as that’s what brothers are for…other than fighting with and teasing non stop of course.

I am not surprised Fin was sick in the end, the dog food one actually stank like dog food, so I’d hate to think just how bad it tasted, especially on top of all the other ones they’d both been eating.

If you were impressed with the boys’ efforts, then please do consider making a donation on Finley’s Just Giving page through the link below, all donations will be going to JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and any donations regardless of size are really appreciated. I’m hoping seeing the total go up will give him a sense of pride and make him feel like he’s making a difference!

He will be taking on more challenges, and if you can think of a challenge that he could do, then please do comment below with your ideas! He is already planning the ice bucket challenge, and the chubby bunny marshmallow one soon.

Thank you,

Stevie x

What a great thing for Fin to do, I hope he rasies lots of money! I’d din’t wtch the video as a rather nasty bout of morning sickness last time round has left me unable hold onto my stomach contents if something is a bit yucky!! #PicknMix

    • 31 July 2015 / 6:59 pm

Ha that’s why I put the warning on there, I’d feel guilty if I made someone sick from it….other than my own child of course ;) Bless him he was so keen to do it as well! Next challenge will be this weekend I think :0)

Poor little Fin. Fantastic, don’t think my girls would be brave enough, but I could probably tempt friends after a few glasses of wine!

    • 31 July 2015 / 7:02 pm

Oh dear bean boozled + wine could get very messy!

  5. 31 July 2015 / 9:18 am

Bless him. He’s got a stronger stomach than me. I have to say I hadn’t hear of this one before. Sounds like a drinking game to me!

    • 31 July 2015 / 7:03 pm

Ha I suspect plenty of drunk people have played it in their time ;) I have honestly not smelt many things worse than that dog food jelly bean!

This made the kids laugh so much when I read it out to them. Looks like we’ll be buying it too! Thanks for your great link up #picknmixfridays

    • 31 July 2015 / 7:05 pm

Eek I hope yours aren’t sick as well! Mine have been watching people do it on YouTube for ages so they were really keen…not so keen to ever try it again though ;)

Must be so tough living with something like type 1 diabetes. I have a friend who recently walked the length of the country over a month via every premiership footballl club to raise money for diabetes research. I think eating jelly babies sounds more fun. Good luck! X MMT

    • 31 July 2015 / 7:06 pm

It’s not easy at times, but my mini man is tough and braver than most people twice his size ;) Wow to the fundraising your friend did, fab!

What a great idea to focus his mind on fundraising. The challenges are a wonderful distraction & I’m sure he will raise lots of money for his efforts. I’m looking forward to his ice bucket challenge! I did one last year & it was soooo cold! #PickNMix x

    • 31 July 2015 / 7:09 pm

I’m looking forward to his ice bucket challenge as well ha! Thinking we may have to do retakes though as now he’s 11 and thinks he’s 15, he has a slight accidental potty mouth at times groan!

      Stevie x

  9. 31 July 2015 / 12:15 pm

Way to go Fin! :) Not sure I fancy mouldy cheese sweets either! Look forward to seeing your next challenges xxx #PicknMix

    • 31 July 2015 / 7:22 pm

The cheese wasn’t so bad, it was the dog food one that pushed the poor boy over the edge! He does have a ridiculous gag reflex though, he’s been sick when I’ve tried to make him finish his tea before yuck!

  10. 31 July 2015 / 2:21 pm

I’ve never heard of this.. I won’t tell my boys as they would beg and beg for it and wind up being sick also. Well done Fin x

    • 31 July 2015 / 7:24 pm

Mine spied it on ebay and were begging me for months so I finally relented…they almost wish I didn’t!

      Stevie x

  11. 31 July 2015 / 3:16 pm

Well done Fin. If I’m honest I have been dreading my kids roping me into playing that game. I thing I would be sick too. Excellent donating to JDRF, I will be raising for them next year so maybe we can join your charitable efforts. #picknmix

Is it weird that after watching that I’m really curious to see what they taste like? Anyway, they both did really well and hope Fin gets lots of sponsorship money for it!

    • 4 August 2015 / 5:59 pm

Ha I was as well, but then I squished one between my fingers and the smell was so bad there was no way I was tasting any of them after that!

      Stevie x

  19. 6 August 2015 / 8:54 pm

Such a lovely idea to do something positive! Think my Kyle would love to do this, don’t think I will be joining him though I would definitely be sick! #PickNMix

    • 6 August 2015 / 10:06 pm

      Stevie x

  20. 6 August 2015 / 10:56 pm

Eeek, that’s nasty! They’re both such brave boys to do this for charity. Good for them for fundraising, that’s amazing. I hope the rest of their challenges are a little bit less… well, vomit inducing ;)

    • 7 August 2015 / 12:13 am

It was a bit grim but hilarious….so mean but after we checked he was alright after ebign sick Si and I were crying with laughter!

      Stevie x

  21. 7 August 2015 / 10:23 am

Eeeeek! I wasn’t sure I could watch this as my eldest girl and I are supposed to be doing this challenge too. It looks so disgusting and I can’t believe Fin is doing this for charity bless him! Glad I am over my recent tummy bug before I watched this and was pre warned by your disclaimer lol! xx

    • 7 August 2015 / 11:23 am

Whatever you do, avoid the brown ones! They all seem to be canned dog food and the smell is bad enough ;)

      Stevie xx

  22. 10 August 2015 / 6:19 pm

Oh my gosh!! Those boys!! If I have any enemies I will think about buying them this game, how horrid!! Looking forward to seeing more challenges, but I don’t think I will ever look at a jelly bean the same way again!

    • 10 August 2015 / 11:24 pm

They aren’t quite so keen on jelly beans any more either ;)

      Stevie x
