Life Update – November 2016

I like to do one of these posts every so often, just to update you on what’s going on around here. My Liked and Loved posts each month tend to cover a lot of the good stuff, but only really touches on the highlights.

Life Update November 2016

Things haven’t been completely positive around here. We have had a house of lurgy for the last few weeks, with everyone passing colds, coughs and sore throats around like a pass-the-parcel no one wants to win the prize in.

The only one who has thus far avoided illness is Si. Whereas I have been feeling so rough lately that yesterday I ended up going to bed in the afternoon and sleeping for around 13 hours in total. It did me the world of good and I feel vaguely human again today. So that’s heading towards the positive again and things could be worse. I’m just glad the boys are better apart from still having coughs.

We have also had complete chaos here. You know how when you decorate your home it’s sensible to do one room at a time? Yeah, we don’t do sensible. We have been decorating every single room of the house minus the bathroom and kitchen – all at the same time. At one point, the boys were even having to sleep in the lounge for almost a week whilst we stripped and painted one of their rooms.

So far they have always shared a room, but my eldest now wants his own room. The room he will be moving into has the box top from the stairs in, so Si is going to make him a new bed over the top of the box top to maximise space in there. He is also in the midst of making from scratch inbuilt wardrobes for us in our bedroom.

The dining room and lounge are finished minus a few finishing touches like curtains. We finally have our heating back as well, which is brilliant. It has been freezing here recently, but it’s back to being cosy again.

Upstairs is still chaos, but we (mostly Si in fairness) have achieved so much recently, that I think we stand a chance of having everything finished and looking lovely before Christmas.

Arghh Christmas …. usually I am super organised, this year I am really behind on present buying. Has anyone else bought hardly anything for Christmas so far?! Please tell me it isn’t just me.

I’m trying to think what else has been happening that doesn’t involve snotty tissues and paint brushes to update you on.

Butlins! Almost forgot this one┬ábut, as part of my Butlin’s Ambassador role we are off to Butlin’s again in the February half term. Even better this time we are staying in the posh looking lodged by the lake and some of our friends are coming with us as well!

I am so excited about this, although I did enjoy Butlin’s when we went to Minehead this year, I think the accommodation this time and the company will make it a completely different experience.

Crazily one of my YouTube videos has reached over 9000 people in 3 weeks. You can see the video over on my Smiggle post if you fancy a nose … not that I’m trying to get you to get me to that magical 10k views or anything *insert innocent face here*.

I am really hoping that in a couple of weeks time things will be less chaos here and I may even be vaguely ready for Christmas … wish me luck!

Mwahahahahaaaa I’m more ready for Christmas than Stevie, now that IS a result! Most of my presents are either here or on order. Go me! You’ve done so well with decorating your house so quickly, we desperately need to get around to doing ours, I need to take a leaf out of your book and get on with it!

    • 13 November 2016 / 6:31 pm

It sounds a lot like my house with constant coughs, colds and such like. I cant wait until we are all well again

    • 15 November 2016 / 1:25 pm

I think everyone either is ill or has been at the moment sadly!

I am very jealous that you have heating as ours has finally packed in (we kind of knew it would one day). Just typing this with frozen hands. I am usually really organised too but I was slacking until yesterday when I went Christmas shopping with a friend. Made a small dent in the lists. Fingers crossed your house is all sorted for Christmas x

    • 16 November 2016 / 6:21 pm

Thanks lovely, it is getting there gradually ;) I seriously need to at least check what I have bought for Christmas so far as I haven’t a clue eek. Hope you can sort your heating quickly!

I’ve normally done all by Christmas shopping by now, but I’m so behind. You are not alone!! When we move in a few weeks we will be decorating, we have a blank canvas, but I’m not looking forward to actually doing it. X

    • 17 November 2016 / 12:44 pm

Decorating in theory always seems like a great idea and the end result is worth it, but yep the fun bit ends after you’ve done the actual choosing of the paint etc ha ;) Good luck with your move lovely!

Sounds like our house at the moment! We have had an array of coughs and colds floating around and its holding up the DIY. Our houses will be finished before we’re too old to enjoy it though right?! #pciknmix

    • 18 November 2016 / 10:47 am

Oh my word I sooo hope so, maybe we should just start on the stairlift now so it’s ready in time?! ;)

I’m in the midst of a renovation while still living there, so I feel your pain!! #picknmix

  7. 18 November 2016 / 10:06 am

Nope, you’re not the only one not ready for Christmas. I haven’t bought one present. Oh god, am I really gonna have to go traipsing around Liverpool city centre with a six month old baby?! Hope you find the time to get organised soon.

    • 18 November 2016 / 8:29 pm

Online shopping is the way to go when you have a teeny one for definite! :)

  8. 18 November 2016 / 10:43 am

Oh no, we have all had the lurgy here too! The cough is the worst, we are all of us coughing and spluttering all night! The decorating sounds very stressful, I can’t even contemplate it! We are doing the boys bedrooms in the next couple of weeks and I wonder why we have left it so near to Christmas! #picknmix

    • 18 November 2016 / 8:28 pm

I think we were slightly mad to do so much all at once ha! Good luck with the boys’ rooms :)

Glad you’re feeling a little better and the decorating is coming together. I’d never even heard of Smiggle but I love the picture of the Christmassy harbour.
I have bought two presents so far. Will need to step up my game if I’m going to be ready before Christmas.

    • 18 November 2016 / 8:26 pm

The Christmassy harbour is one of my favourite places at Christmas time :)

  10. 18 November 2016 / 11:38 am

I have bought literally NOTHING for Christmas so far, I don’t know when I actually intend to start, but I suppose it may be soon!! Hopefully everybody gets back to full health for Xmas for you too! xx #PicknMix

    • 18 November 2016 / 8:24 pm

Thank you x I’ve just put a panicky order in to Amazon, but soooo much to still do and buy! Eek!

      Stevie x

  11. 18 November 2016 / 1:03 pm

I’m so not ready for Christmas! I’ve only managed one small item for my husband so far and I’m starting to panic! I can’t figure out what to get my best friends. Because of immigrating to the UK, everything in my life was chaotic and topsy-turvy and only now am I settling down after flying over less than two weeks ago.

I hope the colds leave your house really soon! :( xx

    • 18 November 2016 / 8:24 pm

I don’t blame you at all for not being ready for Christmas, things must be manic right now! Congrats on the move, I hope you love it here and I hope we’re both vaguely ready for Christmas soon ;)

      Stevie x

  12. 18 November 2016 / 1:40 pm

We have a house of germs too, congratulations on the You Tube success!

  13. 18 November 2016 / 2:28 pm

ugh, the lurgy :-( we are trying to avoid it, so far so good but plenty of kids at our regular groups have bugs flying around in that fun ‘pass the parcel way’

Which beach is that with the Christmas lights? I’m assuming its from a previous year but it looks pretty and we’re on the look out for some coastal festivities this festive season, we’re in Cornwall too so any recommendations throw them my way ;-) x #PicknMix

    • 18 November 2016 / 8:17 pm

That photo was taken at the ultimate place to go for Christmas lights down here, Mousehole. Gorgeous little harbour place gets manic though parking wise as everyone heads there, last year we parked up and walked for about a mile to save trying to drive in there. One of my favourite places at Christmas though!

Oohh you have a handy husband I’m jealous lol! I would love a built in wardrobe over the stairbox we have in our bedroom. I have seen lots of beds built over them on pintrest they look fab! #picknmix x

    • 18 November 2016 / 8:03 pm

Ha boyfriend, but the other bit is definitely true ;) He is ridiculously handy, but it does mean sawdust all over the house at the moment ;)

      Stevie x

  15. 18 November 2016 / 3:46 pm

We have a house full of runny noses and coughs here as well.

  16. 18 November 2016 / 4:02 pm

I’m basically done on the Christmas front for our little family except from jack. Probably rather stupidly I’ve decided to do the rest of my pretty huge family a hamper full of totally homemade bits (at least it will make a good blog post.. or five!)
Sounds like you’re having a lot of fun decorating haha! Isn’t it typical how the illness always skips the men?! #PicknMix

    • 18 November 2016 / 8:01 pm

Knowing Jack anything fishing or food related and he’ll be happy. It used to be a race to get any food at Nan and Grandad’s on Christmas Eve when we all used to have lunch their as kids ;) Well done for being so organised :)

  17. 19 November 2016 / 8:33 am

Stevie fear not, you are not alone! I’m usually super organised too. However with a baby who has started walking, a child who has started school and attends every club possible and somehow we’ve got to this point and I’ve only bought a handful of gifts! My organisation skills have been rotted!
Really need to get into gear.
We’ve been plagued by the lurgy too.Rubbish isn’t it.

You’re not alone on the Christmas thing at all, and I’ve got more to organise this year with the whole family coming to stay! Tomorrow my shopping starts in earnest although having checked the weather forecast it looks like gales are hitting the east of England. Typical! Looking forward to escaping the house for a little bit and looks like I may end up being a drowned rat

  19. 19 November 2016 / 4:45 pm

Just taking on a few projects then? Wow! But I’m sure it will all look great when your finished. Hope you all feel better soon. #PicknMix

    • 19 November 2016 / 10:01 pm

Honestly Jo it is still complete chaos ha! Thankfully I think we are clear of the lurgy now … touch wood ;)

      Stevie x

  20. 20 November 2016 / 3:34 am

    • 20 November 2016 / 10:02 am

I am most definitely hoping things are less chaos here soon and thank you!

      Stevie x

  21. 20 November 2016 / 8:01 pm

What a hectic month! Gla you’re feeling better and it will be lovely to have everything done before Christmas. As for the Christmas shopping, I don’t even start thinking about till Dec!

    • 20 November 2016 / 9:15 pm

Thanks lovely, it has been a pretty crazy month so far, I am looking forward to having time off for Christmas, hopefully the house is vaguely in order by then!

      Stevie x

  22. 21 November 2016 / 6:24 pm

Oh my I do hope that you come to having some control over the chaos in the run up to Christmas. I have yet to work out what to get my family. #PicknMix

  23. 22 November 2016 / 7:56 am

You are decorating the whole house?!Wow you’re brave, I hate DIY. Ahh colds suck, hope you all get better soon far we have managed to avoid any lurgy in this house. I’m not at all organised for Christmas yet, really need to go shopping xx #picknmix

  24. 24 November 2016 / 2:49 pm

Sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate! We’ve got the lurgy too – can’t wait to be rid of it! #picknmix

  25. 24 November 2016 / 4:48 pm

I hope it’s a bit less hectic at home at the moment and you are all lurgy free now. Well done again on the smiggle vlog I just loved you sniffing the pens haha! I’m very very disorganised for Christmas this year and really starting to panic now!
