A Mother’s Day Picnic with Aldi

Mums, what are your plans for Mother’s Day this year? Some years we go out for lunch, and others the boys and Si make me lunch – or more likely buy some sort of takeaway food. This year though, the boys want to make me a picnic.

I love eating outside as a family, whether that’s a pasty at the duck pond, or a full-blown picnic on a clifftop somewhere overlooking the sea.

Mother's Day Picnic

When the boys were small, they used to love indoors picnics where they enjoyed the novelty of sitting on a blanket and eating in the lounge watching a film as a treat rather than in the dining room. I enjoyed it too, but partly because it meant we ate off of paper plates, and the cleaning up was minimal.

I still had to make the picnic though, but this year my ‘baby’ boy is now 10 and his brother (who will always be my baby no matter what he says) is 11 and a half. This means, that they are old enough to do the work for a change, and I love that they want to.

We’ve popped to Aldi and overloaded the trolley as usual, as a recent Aldi convert I still can’t believe some of the prices! The boys helped me to choose all sorts of goodies for our picnic.

Of course I  also got them to practice in advance just to make sure they get it right on the day ;)

Now the only thing to work out, is where to go for this picnic. There are so many beautiful places in Cornwall, plus we have National trust memberships to make the most of so we’ll see where we end up.

Cornwall Picnic

The Cornish weather may decide that we need to resurrect the indoor picnic tradition of years ago, but whether indoors or outdoors on grass or sand, most importantly we’ll be spending the day together.

As amazing as Mother’s Day gifts are, and I have already been spoilt with my special hamper, the main thing I always want for Mother’s Day is just a special family day with my favourite people and lots of smiles.

Stevie x

*We were given a voucher to buy  food for our Mother’s Day picnic, but all thoughts as ever are my own and no matter how random – honest*

Oh I love a picnic. We went to a park on the Malvern hills in about November for a picnic. We spent hours there, the girls had the play equipment to themselves and we didn’t see a soul. We sat on the benches to have our picnic and were perfectly warm in our coats, the best picnics are when there’s nobody else around!x

Definitely, I love it when we find somewhere gorgeous for a picnic where there’s not a person in sight!

Picnics are so much fun! We’ve tried to have a couple with our toddler but he can’t sit still long enough to eat unless he’s strapped into a highchair – we’ll keep trying :) Hope you have a very happy Mother’s Day, we have to wait until May for ours in NZ, I’m just making the most of Easter for now!

Ahhh we also love picnics in our house! The boys favourite at the moment is to have an indoor picnic lunch where we put the picnic blanket on the living room floor and have cocktails sausages, bread, salami, pate. E cannot get enough of it! Sounds like the boys are going to be spoiling you so I hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day! #PickNMix

Oooh I dislike every aspect of eating al fresco but am a huge Aldi fan – my absolute fave 80% chocolate and they come individually wrapped too, I always stock up on those. I may have to suggest and Aldi hamper with wine and choccies instead ;)
Hope the sun shines for your Mother’s Day picnic x #PicknMix

I’ve found outdoor picnics a bit stressful in the past, as my son was always a bit of a ‘runner’ as a toddler so it was hard to get him to stay in one place and eat! Now he’s older though I think we might try again this summer. I do love a good indoor picnic though, even as an adult I find them fun! x

  23. 6 March 2016 / 8:27 pm

I love the bits you can get in Aldi. There’s some really nice food in there, and sometimes things that would be a lot more expensive in other supermarkets or you can’t get at all. I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day picnic and the weather held out for you.
