Our Alternative Halloween 2015

Some years we do go trick or treating, but this Halloween, we were on holiday at Silverspring Hideaway near Constantine in Cornwall, so our Halloween 2015 was a little different than our usual ones.

Alternative Halloween 2015

I felt a little bit mean taking the boys away for Halloween, as they love to get dressed up and go Trick or Treating, but I knew they’d have a good time on holiday so I didn’t worry too much.

During the day on Halloween, the football was on so Si watched it on the laptop inside the pod, while I took the boys out for a walk around the fields for a while. It was lovely being out in the fresh air, and giggling about stupid things with them. We then spent some time playing connect Four until the football finished – Liverpool Football Club is the team of choice in our house in case you wondered!

Once football was over (Liverpool won so Si was happy) we went bowling at Ocean Bowl in Falmouth, which was the first time any of us had been there. I was really impressed with it there. The food we ordered for in between our games of bowling was reasonably priced and really tasty, and there are pool tables, a big screen and more to keep people amused other than the bowling.

Bowling Cornwall

It was the first time we’d been ten pin bowling in a long time, and it was a lot of fun. It was also really quiet as most people were probably trick or treating. At one point however there was a giant banana bowling….Halloween costumes really aren’t as scary as they used to be.

My favourite part of the evening came when we got back to our pod at Silverspring though. We went up in to one of the fields, where there’s a fire pit, and made a fire. The owners at Silverspring have a big store of wood that guests can use, plus a wheel barrow to take it all up to the field where you can have fires if you want to.

We were in a field pretty much in the middle of no where, and above us were more bright stars than I have ever seen in my life. We sat there munching on sweets, toasting marshmallows and generally just having a fun family time.

Fire Pit

I have to say this was my favourite Halloween night in my life so far, and hopefully we made some great memories for the boys. I hope you all had a fun Halloween?

Wow, it sounds like you had a great time! We spent the afternoon of Halloween celebrating my daughters 6th birthday with a fancy dress party and then in the evening we went out trick or treating all dressed up. I think that we would really enjoy going bowling; we have all been separately but not all together!

We really did :) Aw a fun night to have a birthday party on, and it sounds like you had a good one too. Bowling is a lot of fun as a family, but then we all enjoy it anyway

Looks like such a great night! I can’t remember what we did on Halloween… OH! Ikea! Then we got home too late to take the girls trick or treating!

    • 11 November 2015 / 10:19 am

Ooh I like Ikea though, you never know what you might find in there :) We don’t have one down here at all, so it’s always a novelty for me to go in to one.

Oh it looks lovely – star-gazing and toasting marshmallow beats trick or tricking hands down. #PicknMix

This was a lovely Halloween! That’s great that there was firewood & a wheelbarrow available so you can make a campfire. Bowling is such a fun family activity! Much nicer than your average trick or treating :) #picknmix

Looks like you had a fab halloween. We’re not all that hot on halloween in our house but I am sure as Lexie gets a bit older we will get more into it. Something like this would suit us well though #PicknMix

Halloween seems to have just blown up in the last 10 years, so much more popular and mainstream than when I was growing up!

We were away this Halloween too but Aidan is too young to notice, luckily. Looks like yee had a great night – definitely one you will remember :) x

Most definitely, just one of those rare completely perfect nights :)

It sounds totally idyllic to me – being out in the open and looking at the stars. Sarah x #picknmix

Oh, that looks amazing. I did laugh at the giant banana, though! For us it’s good Halloween costumes are often more general and not as ‘spooky’ because Tyger gets scared pretty easily.

I do love the less scary costumes more to be honest, some are a little too scary even for me! ;)

we dressed up and went trick or treating, but this looks like a pretty good alternative to me

    • 13 November 2015 / 9:44 pm

I enjoyed it a lot more than trick or treating, but then it’s usually freezing and wet when we do go!

Haha a giant banana would be enough to put me off my game! Sounds like you had a fab halloween alternative :) Thanks for sharing #PicknMix

It was a lovely night, and ha yep the banana was a bit eye catching!

Sounds like you had a fab time. You can’t beat a campfire!

  15. 13 November 2015 / 8:37 pm

I love the fire pit, family outdoor fun at its best and what a blaze you had going there.

    • 13 November 2015 / 9:54 pm

If we had less neighbours I’d definitely want a fire pit at home, really made the evening :)

There’s nothing like an open fire under the night sky to bring people together – love your photos! #picknmix

Me too :) Was just perfect

  18. 14 November 2015 / 12:50 pm

That’s such a nice way to spend Halloween and also time together as a family. My little one is only 14 months old but I imagine it will only be a matter of time before he starts to dress up and understand what it is #picknmix

    • 14 November 2015 / 2:09 pm

Aw I can imagine he’ll look so cute as well, I love it when teeny ones dress up

I love your alternative Halloween, it’s certainly a much more interesting night than walking round the houses trick or treating (well for us anyway, O is way too shy to actually tell a joke and just stands there…). A fire and some stargazing sounds great! :) x #picnmix

    • 14 November 2015 / 2:11 pm

Oh bless him! One of mine gets shy as well, and lets his brother do all the speaking at the doors when we do go!

We definitely did and the weather was kind to us luckily unlike today! ;)

Aww looks like you had a lovely time. I always find the unusual things we do are what the boys remember and talk about more. xx
