Photos of Cornwall with Little Steps

Welcome to another edition of Photos of Cornwall. The interview series here on A Cornish Mum, which is basically an excuse to show off more of the beauty of Cornwall.

What brought you to Cornwall – if you don’t live here?

My husband has lovely childhood memories of when his family used to come down here for holidays. His parents ended up buying a second-home in Boscastle years ago. Somehow it sort of made sense for us to move down here back in 2008. And we’re still here. We don’t live in Boscastle anymore, but we’re about a ten-minute drive away from our old home.

Where is your favourite place in Cornwall?

It’s difficult for me to name one particular place, but I love all beaches here in Cornwall. Our go-to-beach is Widemouth bay in Bude, since it’s also about a ten-minute drive from where we live. We also love Little Polzeath and Crooklets beach.

What camera/mobile phone do you usually use for your photos?

I use my Canon EOS 760D, but sometimes it’s too bulky to bring around, so I also use my old Canon Ixus or of course my smart phone.

If you could take a photograph of anyone or anywhere in the world, where or who would you choose?

Oh dear, again, difficult to choose between the Northern Lights in Iceland , Machu Picchu in Peru or the Egyptian pyramids! Sorry, really bad at choosing.

Describe Cornwall in a maximum of three words:

Beautiful, unpredictable weather and laid-back.

Pasty or Cream tea?

Pasty for me, especially if it’s from Pengenna pastries in Tintagel, like everything else here in Cornwall, it is after all “award-winning” ;)

If you could be anywhere in the World right now doing anything, what would you be doing and where?

This is really trite, but since I’m typing this on a cold-dreary-day-in January, I’d say – somewhere in a warm tropical country, preferably on a beach too.

Please tell me a random fact about you?

I’m in my 40s and I don’t know how to use make-up apart from lipstick (I’m not even very good at it since I always end up eating it!) Has anyone seen that old Barbara Streisand movie “The Mirror Has Two Faces”? When asked why she doesn’t wear make-up, she replies “Why bother? It’s just me in colour?” Exactly how I feel ;)

Thank you Dean, your photographs are beautiful. I love Boscastle, though don’t get there very often. You’ve made me want to go back soon. I am also somewhere who has no idea about make-up at all.

If you would like to take part in Photos of Cornwall, then drop me an email at and I will tell you what you need to do. You don’t need to be a blogger or a professional photographer, it is open to anyone who wants to share their love of Cornwall.

Lovely photos. I’m not very good with makeup either, only wear it for special occasions and facial disasters. I’ve never been to Boscastle, one for the list.

Thank you so much for this Stevie! And I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t know a thing about make-up :) xx

I very occasionally attempt it and then have to wash my face before going out as I mess it up so badly ;) and thank you for taking part lovely.
