Photos of Cornwall – Life According to Mrs Shilts

Welcome to another addition to the Photos of Cornwall section, one of my favourite sections of my blog. This is the section where I publish Photos of Cornwall interviews along with photos taken by other people. I love seeing my county through other’s eyes.

Life According to Mrs Shilts

What brought you to Cornwall – if you don’t live here?:

We had our first family holiday in Cornwall back in April 2014. We hired a lodge on the edge of Bodmin and spent a week exploring the Cornish coast. We visited lots of the main beaches on the north coast and loved Padstow, such a quaint little town with a brilliant selection of shops, restaurants and cafes.

The macarons looked fantastic although I was good and only bought a couple! We took Olly to visit the beach at Perranporth and dip his toes into the sea, it was a really lovely holiday with lots of happy memories.

Where is your favourite place in Cornwall?:

We drove down to Watergate Bay and I fell in love with it. Such a beautiful place with the sandiest beach and perfect for people watching as surfers master the waves. Living in the West Midlands, we don’t get to see the sea very often so I find it so relaxing listening to the waves and feeling the sand between my toes. The hot chocolate at the beach cafe was also epic!

What camera/mobile phone do you usually use for your photos?:

I usually use my Canon 1200D but I haven’t had it very long so need to get some more practice in. I take an awful lot of photographs on my iPhone 6s, it’s always to hand and I love that I can share my snaps with everyone in an instant.

If you could take a photograph of anyone or anywhere in the world, where or who would you choose?:

I would love to go to Australia and visit the Whitsunday Islands. They look amazing from the photographs I’ve seen and I would love to visit one day.

Describe Cornwall in a maximum of three words:

Breathtaking, Coastal, Inspiring

Pasty or Cream tea?:

Definitely cream tea, when in Cornwall, it would be rude not too!

If you could be anywhere in the World right now doing anything, what would you be doing and where?:

I would love to be sitting on a beach in Australia with a cocktail in hand watching my family enjoying the sunshine and the sea.

Please tell me a random fact about you?:

Many years ago, I played football for my high schools first ever women’s team. We got to the final of the Staffordshire County Cup and we were so proud of ourselves! Lots of happy memories.

Thanks Emma, beautiful photos and now I am wondering why I have never tasted a macaron?!

Like Emma I fell in love with Watergate Bay a long time ago, Cornwall has us coming back every year and we have now bought a cottage down there. Hope to meet you on one of our trips Stevie! Also, Emma, the whitsundays are as beautiful as they look! Lizzie

What a lovely idea for a blog post series. I will keep an eye out for these. I’m in Devon, so just over the border – but Cornwall is very close to my heart as some of my family and good friends live there, my parents met and lived in Cornwall for years and as a family we spend a lot of time visiting. Watergate is a firm favourite for us too (husband surfs), we love the campsite there. I have a feeling I will really enjoy reading your blog. :) #picknmix

  • Jodie Allen at Makeup to Motherhood

LOVE that photo of the macaroons. So bright and colourful! Sitting by the beach with a cocktail sounds pretty good to me too! #PicknMix

  • Carol Cameleon

Lovely pictures and some great answers to some great questions. I’ve never been to Cornwall… it’s rather a long way for us and does put me off but I love to breathe in the sea air… #PickNMix

  • Bread

I would love to visit Cornwall but it’s soooo far. Also cream tea trumps pasties every time. Cause you know scones. And tea.

  • Midgie

Stunning photos, just makes me want the next 5 days to hurry up and we will be on our annual Cornish Holibobs too! Never been to Watergate Bay, the kids are big Polzeath beach fans – they like it because Roxy (my car) gets to go on the sand too! (ecologist in me – not so much!)

  • Sarah Admissions of a Working Mother

Lovely photos as always- you can’t go wrong with Cornwall #picknmix
