When we arrived at the hotel, there was plenty of parking available. The receptionist was really friendly and helpful, asking us what our plans were whilst we were staying there. Mentioning that we were off to Warner Studios, she straight away produced a print out map for us with a post code on to help us find our way there really easily.
She really couldn’t have been lovelier and I wish I had remembered to take down her name to tell Premier Inn how great she was. We headed up to our room and I liked the fact that we needed to use our room key card to access our floor. It does make you feel more secure knowing that only those who should be there can access where you are going to be sleeping.
We have stayed in Premier Inns a lot over the years, as they tend to be affordable, clean and comfortable. They also tend to be of a similar standard, so if you have stayed in one then you know what to expect from another.
Or so I thought.
The Watford North Premier Inn is one of the hotels that Premier Inn have updated and improved in recent years. The Premier Inn hotels we have stayed in before have been nice and the beds have always been comfortable. Watford North though really exceeded my expectations.
It actually had the wow factor, with a lighting trim over the bed, really comfortable beds, a decent sized television for Si to stay up late and watch the EU referendum on…. I have almost forgiven him for waking me up in the early hours to tell me the result.
It was great that the boys’ beds were proper beds not just a pull out sofa and there was still plenty of room to move around despite the three beds.
I liked the little touches in the room like the usual tea and coffee supplies, the pictures on the walls and the bolster for the bed that we could add if we wanted to.
I was pleased to have not only a full length mirror, but also a little dressing table area that was really well-lit, a hairdryer and another mirror. Si was thrilled that there was air conditioning, as he hates being too hot.
Other than Si being awake a lot of the night watching the EU referendum results, we all slept really well in the room. The beds were really comfortable, in fact more comfortable than our memory foam mattress at home! Also considering the hotel isn’t far from a busy road, our sleep was peaceful as well.
The room was spotless, I couldn’t find a spot of dust at all. Normally I wouldn’t be looking, but since we were there to review I was looking with a much more critical eye than usual.
In the morning we had breakfast downstairs and I wish I had managed to take a photo of the restaurant area. It is part of the hotel, so we didn’t need to leave the building – although there was a TGI Fridays just across the road. This made us wish we hadn’t eaten on the journey to the hotel the night before. The hotel restaurant was colourful, bright and very welcoming.
We were shown to a table for breakfast and told we could help ourselves to anything we wanted and that if we wanted anything like the pancakes warmed up, or anything freshly made to just ask.
There was a big variety of choice for breakfast, from cereals, pancakes and pastries to a full cooked breakfast. You could eat as much as you wanted, and I liked that you could help yourself. I’m a bit of a pig when it comes to a hotel breakfast, but that doesn’t mean I want the staff knowing the exact number of things I will be eating.
The staff were constantly refreshing the items that were out and adding to them. Harley loved that there was Nutella to go on his pancakes, and they both had some flapjack and muffins.
Not what they usually have for breakfast at home, but they loved it for a treat. Si and I had a little bit of everything from the cooked breakfast, as you can see from my plate below! Some bloggers go for the artful food pictures, I mostly went for fitting as much on my plate as I could.
Our stay at Premier Inn Watford North really could not have been better, I have nothing negative to say about it. I’m almost disappointed by that, as reviews with even a teeny niggle usually seem more true to me. I promise though, I just couldn’t find a bad thing to say. We really enjoyed our overnight stay and being so close to Warner Studios – less than 3 miles away – this meant that we could even have a little bit of a lie in.
If you want a hotel to stay in whilst visiting the Warner Bros Studios for a bit of Harry Potter fun, this really is the place that you want to be staying.
* our stay at the hotel was complimentary in return for this review, however my thoughts and opinions as always are my own and completely honest ***To comment on this blog you do not need to leave your name, email address or website if you don't wish to.
