On Saturday we opened the new Smiggle shop in Truro down here in Cornwall.
Opening shops by cutting a fancy red ribbon isn’t something that we usually do on a normal weekend. We were really honoured to be asked, even if it did mean an early morning on Saturday. We all love our Saturday morning lie in, but even the boys didn’t grumble at getting up early as they were excited.
There has never been a Smiggle shop in Cornwall, so we’ve been restricted to ordering online before now. Smiggle does hardbacked pencil cases, which work perfectly for storing Type 1 Diabetes supplies in safely for children. We’ve had to order online before now to get ours.
Smiggle originated in Australia in 2003 and didn’t open it’s 1st shop in the UK until 2014. Since then Smiggle shops have popped up all over the place and finally, they are in Cornwall. They have eighty stores now!
When we arrived at Smiggle in Truro, we were greeted by their very lovely and helpful staff. My eldest didn’t want to do the ribbon cutting and be in the photos, but my youngest jumped at the chance. The ribbon didn’t want to cut, so we were laughing quite a lot before we entered the shop.
On entering Smiggle, we were faced with a rainbow of colours. Every type of stationery that I could imagine, with all sorts of scents.
The various scented pencils and pencil cases all gave me a touch of nostalgia for my own youth. We were given a voucher to say thank you for opening the shop, which the boys took ages spending. There was so much choice, but they did eventually choose their goodies. I also bought myself a stationery advent calendar!
Big kid I know, but I am so excited about opening it. There is no way that I am waiting until Christmas, I am planning to do a YouTube video of opening it soon. **Here it is**
With the money that we spent with the voucher and on my advent calendar, we managed to have enough craver saver stamps to get some free gifts as well. Smiggle does a special card that you get stamped every time you spend £10, and when your card is full you receive a free gift in store.
The gifts vary, but we got twisty crayons and a colour in poster set with ours. So, they really are free gifts worth having in my opinion. At the moment, to celebrate the new shop opening, they are giving double stamps as well. I am definitely popping back there soon to the Smiggle Truro shop, to get Christmas stocking bits and to fill up another card!
The staff at the Truro Smiggle are so lovely and I think we have a new favourite shop. Have you visited Truro Smiggle yet?
