This morning I found out that I am on the Britmums Brilliance in Blogging Awards shortlist in the Fresh Voice category!
I honestly was absolutely amazed that I had made it into the top ten, as there are so many amazing new blogs under 18 months old out there. My blog is now 15 months old and what a crazy 15 months it has been.
15 months ago I set my blog up, not really knowing what I was doing and with just a vague idea that I wanted a way to help out parents whose children had been newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in some small way. My own son’s diagnosis was pretty awful and I felt so alone and lost afterwards, I wanted to try to make even just one family feel less alone with it all.
I’ve had amazing emails come to me that have let me know that I have managed to meet that objective in the last 15 months, I have a Type 1 Diabetes section on here which I keep adding to, with anything I think could be helpful to other parents. I’ve also tried hard to spread awareness of not only the symptoms of type 1 Diabetes, but also the ‘truth’ of Type 1 Diabetes as there are a lot of misconceptions around.
I even stood up to the BBC with others online and when a big charity got involved, we managed to get them to agree to not use Diabetes of any type as a joke and to confer with the charity in future whenever they do need to mention Diabetes. That meant a lot to me…. that I could use my blog to make a difference and not just rant at the television for once ;)
Those of you who read my blog know though that just as Type 1 Diabetes is only a part of our life, it is also only a part of my blog. My blog has evolved in to an eclectic mix of all sorts, with a heavy dose of Cornwall of course. I apologise for some of the jealousy inducing photos I often tease you with ;)
My love of photography has grown so much since I’ve been blogging and in all honesty so has my love of Cornwall. Having been born here and living here all my life I had started to take it for granted without realising – I obviously have always loved it, but I didn’t take the time to just enjoy it.
Writing about it so often now, getting out and about so much more and seeing how you all see this county has made me fall in love with where I live all over again.
All this has been amazing for me, life changing. One of my other favourite things about my first 15 months of blogging, is the friends I have made. There are people I now don’t go a day without speaking to, friends I may never have met but who are so on my wavelength that that really doesn’t matter. Friends who make me cry with laughter even when I’m having a really bad week. That’s pretty special.
This post though isn’t really to list everything I’ve loved about blogging so far – it would seriously be a LONG post, but it is actually to say thank you.
Thank you to everyone who has voted for me so far and gotten me on to the short list, thank you to those of you I am now lucky enough to call friends, thank you to everyone who reads my blog or keeps me amused on social media when I should be working… without you all I would just be the odd woman who now takes photographs of her food when out in public and once made a yoghurt sandcastle on a busy beach complete with sparkly cocktail umbrella on her own….
If you wanted to vote for me to hopefully get in to the final of the Brilliance in Blogging Awards, then that would be lovely of you – even if you voted originally it has been reset so won’t count unless you vote again. The link is below if you click on the fancy badge below.
