The A to Z of Me.

Thank you to the lovely Rachel over at Mummy in Training and for nominating me to do an A to Z of Me post! I think the title makes it quite obvious, but basically it’s a list of things about me that you may not know, in order of the letters of the alphabet (wish me luck!).

Here’s my list…

– I am addicted to blogging, ever since I started this blog, I can’t be away from it for more than a few hours…mostly when sleeping! It should be A for apologise really to my poor neglected boyfriend, but I’m going to be good and try to be on here less in the evenings for a while, so that he remembers what I look like without a laptop attached to me!

– Has to be Butterflies. Considering my hatred of creepy crawlies, this may be a surprising one, but I really like butterflies. They appear all over our house on various things, including one that came from my Dad and Step mum’s wedding centre pieces that clips onto my bedroom lamp and makes the shadow of a giant butterfly on the ceiling. Caterpillars however completely freak me out…

– There’s only really one I can put here and that is Cornwall (or Cornish!), I was born in Cornwall, I love Cornwall, my blog includes a lot of Cornwall posts, and I love where I live.

– I am really scared of the Dentist after having an awful one as a child, and then some dental work done by an incompetent dentist as an adult that resulted in me having to have work done at the hospital with gas and air! Well I quite enjoyed the gas and air….but I really have to force myself not to look petrified in front of the children when we go for our check ups.

– I love my email now that I blog, I never know quite what will pop up in my inbox, and my inbox usually leaves me smiling these days.

Family :) I love all of my family, but especially my little family of my boyfriend and my two sons. I know how lucky I am to have them.

– When I’m stressed I grind my teeth in my sleep. I’m a heavy sleeper so this doesn’t affect me other than an achy jaw in the morning, but poor Si is a light sleeper and I think it drives him a little bit man. He did wake me the other night to tell me I was making a sound like a fridge in my sleep….I still have no idea what he means, but I come from a family of sleep walkers and talkers (including my boys) so I can believe it!

– The little finger on my left hand is lacking a top, luckily it has a nail even if it is slightly weirdly shaped. People don’t tend to notice until when drunk I decide to show them my hands together. This is why when I did my Nail HQ post on here recently I had to struggle and take a photo using my left hand.

– I used to have an imaginary pony as a child. For some reason I called it my ‘silky pony’ and used to ‘ride’ it all over the place, a fact that my older sisters love to remind me of. What can I say, I had a good imagination and I was possibly a bit odd.

– I’m Cornish (shocker I know) so this one has to be Jam First, I’m talking cream teas and scones here in case you wonder what on Earth I am on about! Seriously jam first is the only way to do it, otherwise the cream melts a bit and slides off a hot scone taking the jam with it. Sorry Devon people you are just wrong.

– I am hopeless in the kitchen! I have a few dishes that I make all the time that I make well – unless I get distracted and burn them whilst answering blog comments, but I can’t bake to save my life and I really would never say I was a good cook. I also gave Si food poisoning within the first 3 months of dating, because I took his sausages out of the frying pan early to fit my mushrooms in….and yes he does still tell people about this almost 5 years later.

– I am a real lightweight when it comes to alcohol, and tend to drink things that don’t taste like alcohol (my inner teen misses the apple Hooch days) and I even add lemonade to wine.

– I love being a Mum, although I miss being called ‘Mummy’ a little bit. My boys make me laugh all the time, and make me so proud of them for the mini men they are becoming as they get older. Even on their cheekiest days, I still love them a ridiculous amount.

– There are some noises that I just can not cope with, these include any noise that can be made with polystyrene and various other squeaky noises that go right through me. My little family enjoys torturing me with polystyrene.

– I love the Ocean, I would have said the sea, but I have an S already!

The sea / ocean

– I love to put my Pyjamas on if I have nowhere to go out in the evenings (most evenings!), it doesn’t matter if it’s straight after the school run or an hour before bed, it’s rare that I don’t have them on earlier than bedtime. They’re just so cosy and comfy and yes it probably does mean I am getting old.

– I love quality time with my family, whether it’s for a walk on the cliff tops or just snuggling up to watch a film on a rainy day, doing stuff just the four of us sometimes is important to me.

– I am rubbish at driving at night, my night vision isn’t great and add that to headlights reflecting off my glasses and it doesn’t make for very relaxed passengers! I actually try to avoid driving in the dark, and funnily enough, the only time Si wants me to is when he wants to be the one to drink. When drunk my driving isn’t so scary apparently.

– I have done a Skydive before for charity and absolutely loved it. If it wasn’t for the fact that there was a plane crash at the same place I jumped a couple of years later I might be tempted to do it again, but now I’m a Mum I feel I have to be a teeny bit safer.

– I have a Foundation Degree in Travel Industries Management, which would’ve been turned into a business degree if I hadn’t already been heavily pregnant with my eldest Fin by the time of my last University presentation. The marketing side of my course has definitely come in handy for my blog.

– I watched the film Critters as a child (my older sisters liked to make me watch scary stuff for their own amusement) and for months afterwards couldn’t sleep with any of my limbs out of the covers, as I was worried there might me a critter under my bed.

– My hair was very curly as a child and very long. It was impossible to comb or brush and mostly just looked a mess. GHD’s have tamed it over the years, but if I go to bed with wet hair Si looks slightly scared the next day at what he’s woken up to.

– I’ve lost quite a lot of weight over the years, I used to be over 2 stone heavier than I am now, but I can put it on so easily, and want to lose another stone to be well within my healthy weight range. I’m not obsessive though, it’s more about being healthy for me, and being short (5 foot 2) any extra weight does show very quickly.

– I used to love X Files when I was a tween, but now seeing it on YouTube I can’t work out why?!

– When I was younger (yes I know this is a bit of a cheat one) I used to have a hamster called Annabella Kajinski who I used to drive around in my remote control Barbie car. I did once accidentally send her down the stairs, but other than a few hamster poos in the car, she survived and lived for ages afterwards!

– This one will be very lame, but we love going the Zoo!

What would be on your A – Z of you list? Instead of tagging specific people, I’ll let you tag yourselves. So if you fancy giving it a go then please do and let me know, so that I can read yours as well!

I enjoyed reading this and I have to totally agree with ‘J’!
It has been a long time since I had decent scones with jam and cream – jam first – and I’m so looking forward to eating plenty on my summer trip home to the UK :-)

I did this post too it’s not easy is it! :) and I too love my emails since becoming a blogger and having just come back from Cornwall it really is an awesome place.

    • 28 June 2015 / 4:20 pm

I’m a little biased I know, but Cornwall is an amazing place. We’ve been away since Wednesday and just got home today, it’s always sad to end a holiday, but such a nice feeling to arrive home!

Yes! Someone who is passionate about cream teas jam first always! My hubby loves to wind me up about this debate. I hate polystyrene too and I’m afraid if you were grinding your teeth near me I’d have to pop you on the sofa (or in a tent outside ;-) it does the same thing as polystyrene!! We have a few things in common so I’m not so nervous about meeting up one day soon ha ha x

    • 28 June 2015 / 4:36 pm

Ha, now see if someone else was grinding their teeth it would drive me mad! In my defence though, I’m such a heavy sleeper I’m never aware I’m doing it ;)

Can you tell me who you named your hamster after? Was is the imaginary friend of a girl in a children’s tv show? If so, what was the name of this programme? The name Annabella Kajinski pops into my head all the time and has been annoying me for at least the last 18 years!!. I can’t find any other referrence on the internet apart from your blog!!! Haha I would really appreciate it if you could help me

    • 10 February 2016 / 9:57 am

Ha I am the same, I’ve tried googling and can’t find what its called either and I have never met anyone else who remembers the show other than one of my sisters! I do remember she had a dog called Rags and I thinks it was her imaginary friend but I’m also at a loss! If I ever work it our or someone lets me know on here I’ll email you ;)

Eek Zoe I know the answer!!! I’m hoping you have comment alerts turned on but I’ll email as well ha! Someone just told me this on another site:

The programme that you are trying to remember was call “Just Us” with Kay Mellor. It was set in Leeds very close to where we live in Headingley.
The imaginary friend to Hope was called Annabella Kajinski. She also had s dog called Rags.
The series ran for 3 seasons from 1992 – 1994.
Brings back a lot of good memories.
      Hope this helps.

I searched on YouTube and there it was! Mystery solved at last! Stevie x
