The Big Bedroom Makeover and Move – The Boys Room

Before we moved in to our current home we renovated it, every room other than the kitchen which we did whilst living here (never again) had a complete overhaul. Our bedroom which I will show you in another post is exactly how I wanted it, and the boys room seemed brilliant to begin with. However they are outgrowing their room and so we need to do a big bedroom makeover and move!

The main problem with their room, is that they have bunk beds, which Fin is outgrowing quickly. I’m pretty sure he won’t be able to sit up in his bed properly in the near future, so now they need separate beds. We didn’t really think of this when we allocated bedrooms, as our room is bigger than their room, hence why now we will need to swap rooms, and redecorate all over again. It’s a relief that we have a box room to move in to when the time comes to do it all!

I’ll be doing another post showing how the boys current room looks before it becomes our room…I’ll just need to force them to tidy it first. I may even add a photo in to this post at some point, once their bedroom has been decontaminated yet again!

I have no idea how they can make so much mess in such a short space of time, but I’ve gone on strike with their room now, and they only get pocket money when they have a tidy room. It’s saving me a lot of money, and I’m pretty sure now the new Lego Xbox game Jurassic Park is out, their room will be sparkling soon.

I’m actually kind of excited about the room swap, despite all the work it will entail and I have started looking around for ideas of how to do their room and what to put in it. I have decided that it’s going to be blue themed with different shades, as I want it to be a room that will suit them when they get older as well, so I have told them that no they can’t have a Minecraft room!

Here’s a little mood board of some of my current ideas…even if I am banned from starting the swap until Si has finished doing the outside sheds (boo).

Boys Room Makeover

Number 1 is the bedding I like the look of from Very, number 2 is  one of the great children’s beds from Room to Grow that I am really contemplating buying for both of them, number 3 is a Beanbag seat from Room to Grow, which I have to confess I have already bought… it’s a great size and so comfy (perfect footstool) that the boys may have to fight me for it when their room is done.

Number 4 is bedroom furniture from Next which I’m not really sure on, as we may go with white furniture to match the beds we want to get a little better, but I do really like it. Number 5 is wall art, also from Next and I think the boys would really like it and it’s just a bit different which I like! Now just to hurry Si up with the sheds….

Feel free to let me know of any cool blue coloured items you might know of for their bedroom, we have yet to work out what colour scheme ours will be, although I suspect light purple like our current one is, as I have a gorgeous lamp I don’t want to get rid of!

Oh I love a home wish-list/mood board! If it were me, I’d probably go for another colour and use blue as an accent. There are some amazing accessories on the market at the moment.

BHS do some amazing star lights which would look really cool in a boy’s room. Thanks so much for linking up with #HomeEtc — hope to see you again next week! x

I’m still playing with different ideas and colours, if only the sheds were finished so I could get started! We need all new furniture for their room though, and may need to sell some from ours as we won’t have enough room when we swap…but they have huge inbuilt wardrobes that will now be ours! Yay!

Really like that Next bedroom furniture – but maybe not a lot more blue than that in the room…might look a bit ‘blue’. Great choices though and I can’t wait to hear and see how the change goes! Thanks for linking up again, much appreciated. Jess x #HomeEtc

I’m contemplating white furniture now with pale blue walls and blue bedding etc…but I’ll probably change my mind again! Having fun looking and planning :)

I would love to do the boys room up. At the moment I am thinking cars, dinosaurs and rockets … it will be a mixture of things. no real colour theme yet. I am thinking of keeping their big furniture white or neutral and accent it with colour.. as boys grow their tastes will change so it will be easy to update then and still keep the furniture. Maybe a feature wall would be cool? or a chalkboard picture frames on the wall where the boys can make masterpieces.
