The Royal Cornwall Show with Rodda’s

Last week in Cornwall, it was the Royal Cornwall Show. This is the county show that runs at the beginning of June every year, on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday and has been running for over 200 years!

The Royal Cornwall Show is always very nostalgic for me, I have no idea how many times I have been, just that it’s a lot, and I have good memories of going there with my Dad and older sisters when I was a little girl. I remember the temperamental weather always worked in my favour, as my poor Dad was always having to buy us a warmer jumper or similar, as the weather in Cornwall loves to keep you guessing.

This year Si and I went to the show on the Friday, which made me feel a teeny bit mean as we went child free, but then the little twinge of guilt was relieved, by the fact that we walked for hours at the show without anyone moaning they had sore legs…well I did a little bit, but at least I didn’t keep deciding I needed the toilet when we were at the furthest point away from any.

At the show you can see all sorts of animals and watch all sorts of different shows.

You can also buy anything from a tractor, brand new car or farming machinery, to jewellery, clothes, outside rooms, barbecue hut, decorative chickens, ornaments and more. Pretty much if you can think of it, someone at the Royal Cornwall Show is likely to be selling it.

This year I fell in love with some beautiful handmade glass┬áby the very talented Jo Downs. I didn’t think I’d heard of Jo before, but then realised I have seen her work all over the place. Owning a Jo Downs piece is now definitely on my bucket list.

You can also get any type of food that you can think of at the show, and we always make the most of that bit! I can remember always getting strawberries and cream with my Dad as a kid, so eating it always brings back good memories.

We were very lucky this year to be invited into the Rodda’s hospitality tent, and wow what a ‘tent’ it was. They had the fantastic Tea Vintage there serving complimentary cream teas and cups of tea. Vintage was definitely what we got, from the gorgeous women who served us to the music, and decor.

The tea cups that they used on the day were perfect, and the tea was lovely.

The best part of course though was the cream tea with Rodda’s cream and a strawberry, so I definitely got my ‘strawberries and cream’ again this year. No one does cream quite like Rodda’s, and that’s not just my Cornish bias speaking. Rodda’s have been around for 125 years! They’ve even brought out their own children’s book (post coming very soon), so one of the characters from this, Merryn the cat was walking around the show, but sadly we missed her!

We had a brilliant day, it is lovely to have some couple time now and again. After all the walking my legs have only just recovered though, and I think we’ll be nice and take the boys next year.

If you have never been to the show before, then I would really recommend it. In 2016 it will be on the 9th, 10th and 11th June, and if you are in Cornwall you really should try and go. Beware though always go early on, as Royal Cornwall traffic is in a league of it’s own.

Complimentary cream teas and cups of tea??!! Sounds like a tent I need to visit!

The show looks fab! Looks very much like the Royal Welsh Show which is held annually here in Wales. I will add the Royal Cornwall Show to my bucket list as well!

Definitely do lovely it’s a brilliant day out :) You never know quite what you’ll see there it’s so random sometimes ha! I used to love it as a kid I’d be covered head to toe in stickers and have 100 free pens and leaflets I had no use for…but it was treasure back then! ;)

If you get there really early on, you have a couple hours before it goes crazy busy, and it is definitely easier without children – and cheaper as we didn’t have to go to the fairground part!

We love the Royal Cornwall Show! I’m just over the border in Plymouth and we try to go each year depending on work. I love how varied it is there and so much to see and do. My son loves sitting on all the tractors and diggers.. I end up gazing at the hot tubs thinking how nice that would be in my back garden!

I’m always eyeing up the hot tubs as well, and the summer houses both of which we have no room for! I definitely love the show too :)

It really is, I’ve been going since I was too young to remember and still love it every time I go :) I know Devon does a big County show as well, but I’m not sure where else does!

I absolutely love the idea of going to a county show! It just looks fantastic – I think it’s me wanting to be a country girl at heart! It looks like you had a great day and don’t feel guilty for not taking the kids – there are some things that are just more fun without having to drag children around!! Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday

It really is, and it’s a bit of a family tradition for most Cornish families that I know. Hence why it gets ridiculously busy later on in the day there! I’ll definitely be taking the boys again probably next year :)
