I was recently sent some of the most beautiful chocolates that I have ever seen from Bettys for Valentine’s Day.
In all truthfulness Si and I don’t really do Valentine’s Day. Don’t get me wrong at times we are romantic, we just aren’t the socks with hearts on, single red rose type of people.
For one neither of us likes to waste money – *wistfully daydreams about not having to worry about money ever*. Plus we tend to go for more sarcastic love than soppy love. I love the man like crazy, but the mug that I gave him last Valentine’s Day which said ‘You’ll Do I Suppose’ is more ‘us’ than a heart emblazoned mug.
Admittedly I have bought him a Mr Men mug with Mr Perfect on before, but I’ve kept the balance there by also buying him a Mr Grumpy mug. I tend to make him tea in whichever mug best suits his or my mood at the time ha! Apparently I should have a Miss Short Angry Person mug, but they don’t make them unfortunately …
We also make a lot more effort for birthdays and special occasions that other people don’t share with us. We do usually buy small gifts for each other at Valentine’s that are thoughtful and actually useful.
Chocolate comes in to this category, as in my opinion it is one of life’s essentials. Chocolate that looks like this, most definitely appeals to me as well.
This year for Valentine’s I’ll be frugal and vaguely romantic, as I’ll be giving the Bettys chocolates to Si as a gift. I may well help him to eat them though, as there are rather a lot. So basically I would really be helping him out by eating them.
To me Valentine’s isn’t about how much you spend – just as well in my case – it’s about spending the day with the person you love, doing something that you both love. In our case eating chocolate and just being together.
What are your Valentine’s plans? Do you buy gifts and make a much bigger deal of it than us?
